UT Tyler Nursing Students – HeartCode® Requirement
All UT Tyler Nursing students are required to complete the American Heart Association’s HeartCode® Basic Life Support (BLS) course as part of their program requirements. This blended learning format allows students to complete the online portion at their own pace, followed by a scheduled in-person skills assessment with a certified instructor.
Instructions to Comply with UT Tyler Requirements:

Complete the Online HeartCode BLS Course First
You must complete the online HeartCode BLS course prior to attending your scheduled in-person class.-

After completing the course, print your certificate of completion and bring a paper copy with you to your in-person session. Digital copies will not be accepted.

Attend the Required Hands-On Skills Session
The hands-on session is an American Heart Association Skills Check, during which you will practice and be tested on the CPR skills learned in the HeartCode BLS online course.-
You must bring a printed copy of your HeartCode certificate of completion to participate.

Students will not be allowed to attend the in-person class without it.

Completion of both the online HeartCode course and the in-person skills session is required to receive your AHA BLS Provider certification card, valid for two years.

Students may choose the location that best fits their schedule and travel needs. When registering or scheduling your session, please be sure to confirm your preferred location.
